Iced green tea latte and more
This article from the Chicago Tribune's Metromix.com describes various tea-based chilled drinks to help beat the summer heat.
To me, the most intriguing drink is a green tea latte served over ice. When I first heard about green tea lattes, I was skeptical to say the least. After expressing this skepticism in this blog, several blog readers contacted me to say that a green tea latte can be a wonderful drink, especially (or only?) when made with freshly brewed tea. If it's that good (I have to admit I haven't tried one yet), then a green tea latte should be good chilled, too.
Here's a previous blog entry about iced green tea.

Green tea lattes (matcha latte) are usually more stable when served chilled than a hot matcha latte. The flavor doesn't change as rapidly as with hot.
Actually some of the brands of "sweet green tea" or "matcha au lait" which are using other flavorings, milk powder, various additives or just low quality matcha seem to promote the "iced" version more than hot. That's because the flavors are more complex and more pronounced in hot drinks than cold. If you're starting with a good quality tea, it will taste good hot or cold. If you start with a bad one, it might only be drinkable iced...
I haven't drunk iced green tea latte, but I have drunk green tea frappe and powdwerwd green tea in Kyoto. There are many sweet shop which make a lot of sweet of green tea.
I've seen the promotional stuff for green tea iced drinks over at Starbucks recently. It's funny though, because green tea latte's are nothing new. Mocafe has a great tasting green tea matcha latte that I know a lot of coffee/tea bars serve and it's delish!
I'm guessing the quality must be pretty decent too, cause they market it as made from shade grown matcha...? What's the difference? You should definitely give the green tea latte a try, I love the stuff, I know they have a site...just google mocafe.
