I am soon to acquire a Edo period tanto that is in need of polishing/cleaning. It has some superficial rust from decades of misuse. Do you know, or can you recommend, someone qualified to make the necessary restoration? Please advise.

Riefler,
I don't personally know anyone outside of Japan who could do the job or make a recommendation. You might want to call around to local museums or martial arts studios. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help, but good luck!
