It's never too late to learn Japanese
This article in the Washington Post (registration at the Post is required but free) is about recent studies have found that learning a foreign language is possible even in old age. These results overturn conventional wisdom, which held that the ability to learn a language peaks early in childhood and subsequently declines and finally peters out in early adulthood.
In fact, linguist Robert M. DeKeyser says that many people who start learning a language in adulthood become proficient enough to become FBI translators. "Otherwise," he says, "we would have to close whole branches of the government."
